Making A Choice

Right now I am itching to finish this book so I can read one of the many others I have waiting for me on my shelf. I'm trying to make sure I read for a little while before bed each night, because two books a semester is not okay. So tonight I told myself I would read a set number of pages, only being slightly distracted. (; Not sure if I mentioned it already, but I'm also dealing with a slight cold or something, which means I'm sniffling constantly. Fun.

Officially on Thanksgiving break now! I'm free for the next few days, with only plans to hang out with friends! Yippee!

Tonight I am so incredible close to finishing up this month long knitting project. I have *maybe* 20, short, rows to go, yet I'm too exhausted now to complete them. I'm afraid I'm going to run out of yarn, so we'll see. For now, though, I'm going to sleep after 20 hours of being up.

Saturday Night

A perfect Saturday night to me: rereading my favorite book series, Kevin Costner & Modern West, & the joy of knowing there are funfetti cupcakes & Papa John's pizza a few steps away.

Also, how funny is it that the song on when I took this picture was "Saturday Night"? AND WE WENT TO ON THE BORDER TONIGHT AND OUR WAITRESS IS A KNITTER AND HAS ALPACAS. #highlightofthemonth

Where I've Been

The Rocket Summer's Bryce Avary at the Christmas Madness concert on the 20th. Awesome night.

Oops. I went a month without blogging. Not for any reason besides that I tend to try to focus on things that really matter sometimes. Why bother with organizing blog posts when I can sit on the couch and just relax by hanging out with my family? So that's what I did. I took a little break from trying and now I'm ready to go at it again. I'm ready to learn more about knitting on the needles I got for Christmas, expand my creativity with my camera, and get into better routines that involve reading my Bible more often. And, as much as I hate cliches, what better time to start than in 2014? And, of course, I plan on blogging every bit.

I'll post more about my 2014 goals soon. I just wanted to check it one more time before 2013 is over. Tomorrow I'll do my final reading update - I plan on changing that up a little bit in the new year.

3 Months with Sam

Sam isn't looking so good. Even just look at pictures from one month ago, I can see that he's lost a lot of petals. And then I took inside the pot (like you can kind of see in the last picture) and it just all looks weird.

If this plant dies, I will be very sad. I'm thinking maybe I haven't given him enough water, so I guess this month I'll focus on reviving him.

2 Months with Sam

How has it only been two months since I got this little guy? It feels like three months - at least. I don't think he's looking too good. So far I had only watered him by spraying him with a spray bottle, so maybe he needs more water than that? Maybe it's just a plant and I shouldn't dedicate a whole blog post each month on him? Nah, I think I'll stick with that. 

Sam, I need to water you more this month. I'm sorry. I don't know how plants - much less succulents - work. 

Also, it's been really gloomy lately, which makes for grainy pictures. I mean, I could just take the ISO to down from 3200, but the shutter speed has to be fast because it's hard to take this photos without shaking. *sigh* Shooting manual is a tad difficult sometimes.

I did, of course save the video where Benedict Cumberbatch uses my name as part of how he remembered how to spell his last name. BRB I'm squealing. Aside from my fangirling, I am looking for new music to listen to, so suggestions are greatly appreciated.)

1 Month with Sam

It's been four weeks now since that Sunday afternoon when I brought home this little succulent. He's sat on my nightstand every day (except for a few days there when I thought he was getting too much light and I moved him to my desk). I should have watered it at week three, but ended up waiting until week 3.5, but then I watered two days in a row, so I think he'll be fine. To water I've just used a spray bottle, putting some on the soil and some on the little leaves. 

While taking these pictures, I accidentally discovered all these dead leaves when they fell out. Whoops. Anyway, he's looking fresh now with all that out of there, and he's doing well. Not dead yet, so I'm happy.

Meet Sam

I got a plant! Which, of course, you know because you just scrolled through some pictures of it. Anyway! I'm pretty excited about it.

I have wanted fish for a few months now, but then I did some "research" (aka googling on my phone when I should be sleeping) and found that it would take more thought than just getting a fish & feeding it daily; I would need to find just the right fish, then the right sized tank for that fish, then the food, and of course clean it out every now and then. So. I decided against that. I'm sure I can find an app that will bring me that kind of happiness instead - much cheaper.

So then I decided that I wanted a plant. A succulent, to be exact, because I've seen way too many pictures on tumblr to ignore their beauty. Then this weekend, I wanted to buy something. That's not an urge I have often - I hate money - but I kept thinking about what to get. Then we went to WalMart. And I decided to wander off on my own and search for a plant. I almost ended up with a different kind, but this one was already potted and my mom was ready to go so I kept it.

When we got home, I set it on my nightstand and had a photo shoot with it. I love it. It's a Jade succulent. The specs on the plant thingy (pictured) are different than the ones I found online, so I need to some more research so I can know a bit more about how many hours in the sun, how often to water it, etc. Thankfully, though, my mom used to be a huge plant nerd (that's a compliment! It was her major in college!), so I'll be depending on her for plant advice.

And, yes, I named it Sam as in Sam Winchester from Supernatural. So you better believe I have plans to get a Dean and Castiel too. I am currently very obsessed with this show. I started it a few weeks ago and am currently on season four. I have watched countless panels with the cast.

July Farewell

Today I said farewell to July by hanging out with my best friend for the first time in a month. We celebrated our last few weeks together before we both head to college by eating Chick-fil-A, roaming Bed Bath & Beyond, grabbing sno cones, and watching one of her new obsessions: Star Trek. I would be lying if I said I'm not looking forward to when we finally get around to watch Star Trek Into Darkness.
