Quality Time

Yesterday my best friend and I spent some quality time together just snacking and watching Netflix. We've been getting together to watch the new season of Sherlock (!!!), but we wanted to do something else before she headed back to school today, so we picked up a pizza from Papa John's, snacks from Wal Mart, and watched a few episodes of Supernatural. I'm an SPN fan, and she wants to get into it, but we'll see. Either way, we now have snacks for Sunday's episode of Sherlock, which is apparently going to leave us in tears.

WIP Wednesday

It's hard to see the ribbing while it's on the needles, but it's k2, p1.

WIP = work in progress. I think I'll make this a regular thing.

I kind of referenced, in this post, that I bought double pointed needles. I got them on Friday, and searched Ravelry for doable patterns that night. I knew I wanted my first project on them to be some fingerless mitts, and I eventually found this pattern that look doable enough, so I got started.

I finished the first mitt on Sunday night, and suddenly understood the pain I'd only read about: it kinda sucks finishing one mitt/glove/sock and then knowing you have to repeat the same thing for the second one. But, I started the second one Monday morning, and so far I've only gotten about an inch in. I didn't photograph the completed mitt, because I figure I'll do that once they're both done.

I hope to finish this second one in the next couple days so I can get started on another project. I'm not sure what I'll do next, yet...

Potential Trekkie

007/365

I guess you could say I'm a potential Trekkie. I have only seen the 2009 and 2013 movies, but I really enjoy those two. I've thought about trying to watch at least one of the tv series, but I can never find a clear answer online as to where I should start. I'm a perfectionist in that if I'm going to watch something, I want to start from the very beginning. And I will not consider myself a Trekkie until I get much further into this fandom, hence this title and the thought that I have the potential to be a Trekkie, or at least more so than before I watched the movies.

My First Hat

I finally knit a hat! I've loomed hats, but this was my first one to actually knit. And my first completed project on my Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles! I got the needles for Christmas, so of course the first thing I did was hop on Ravelry and search for a good hat to knit for beginners. I found this pattern and set to work.

It really was so simple and a great one to learn on. I made a few mistakes, but they're not noticeable and I know I won't make them again, so I don't care. The only thing I really had difficulty with was when I started the decreases...and it was stretching way too much to continue to be on the circular needles, but I didn't have double pointed needles (at that time...) so I had to remove the tips of my needles and just use the connector thing.

In order to really understand my frustration, you have to understand that I told myself I would finish by 2014. I started on the 28th of December and finished around 2am on 01 January. I probably could have finished about an hour earlier if I wasn't doing it the most ghetto way possible. I definitely sent out multiple angry tweets, and that is why I bought double pointed needles two days later. More on my first project with those in the next couple days.

So, because this project was started and (almost) completed in 2013, it does not count towards the 52 projects I want to do this year. I will, however, be remaking this hat for someone, and that will count. I'm such a stickler.

Self Portrait (01/52)

My first self-portrait towards my goal of one a week for this year. I had a little photo shoot in my room, trying to both get pictures of the hat I knitted and for this weekly challenge. I had some others I was ok with, but then I messed with my tripod a little more and got it to be portrait, and viola. I'm cool with it, so there you have it. I'm going to consider this as also experimenting with photography. Tomorrow I'll post more pictures of the hat.
